Homeowners learn to recycle

Reduce, reuse and recycle are the new buzz words on just about everyone’s lips.
And the message was pushed to the forefront even more when the Solid Waste Management Programme held its 4Rs Fair (reduce, reuse, recycle, recover) at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre today.
Interested patrons took the opportunity to browse a number of booths hosted by both Government and private sector organizations.
They learnt the benefits of separating and recycling their household garbage; the dangers that Sanitation Service Authority workers face when homeowners place hazardous materials in their garbage and the impact that littering and illegal dumping have on the marine environment.
In addition, they were introduced to various companies which were willing to take metals, computer monitors and even grass clippings and tree branches and turn them into either money or mulch. (HLE)
