BARBADOS will begin today’s much-anticipated athletics segment of the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, with high hopes.World champion Ryan Brathwaite has a very strong chance of winning gold in the men’s 110-metres hurdles and he will be in action today, running in the second of two semi-final heats.He is in lane five, while Shane Brathwaite is in lane six of the first heat, and both need to finish within the top three of their heat or qualify among the last two based on times.Shakera Reece, the double sprint national champion, has been drawn in lane five, in the first of three heats. To advance to tonight’s final, she has to finish within the first two in each heat or the last two based on time. The other members of the team are high jumpers Thorrold Murray and Henderson Dottin, javelin thrower Justin Cummins, and discus thrower and shot putter Keisha Walkes. (SAT)
