ALL STARS will be making headlines at the big show at Kensington Oval next Friday night.
The Banks/LIME Pic-O-De-Crop Finals will be a showdown between Cave Shepherd All Stars and De Digicel Big Show in what has become the big yard for those hoping to win the calypso crown.
John King, Anthony Gabby Carter, Terencia TC Coward and Sheldon Hope of the De Digicel Big Show all landed places, along with Crystal Cummins-Beckles, Carolyn Tassa Forde, Colin Spencer and Adrian AC Clarke of the Cave Shepherd All Stars. Both tents can boast of having all their representatives in the semis going through to the finals.
There is one Headliner in the name of Blood, who sings about the score he has to settle with defending monarch Red Plastic Bag (RPB).
When the finalists were announced by MC Carl Alff Padmore around 1:30 a.m. today at the National Stadium, three kings and one first-timer in Crystal were in the line-up.
For the second time in three years perennial finalist David Kid Site Piggott has been left out of the final. This time he has been named as the reserve.
Gabby’s return to the competition was much more triumphant than his last appearance in the semis in 2008. The eight-time monarch and Kid Site were left at the gymnasium of the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex that year.
Six women were called, but only three were chosen after the 18 had completed their 36 songs. First-time semi-finalists Shaki-K and Malika will have to try again for their first finals berth.
Finalists are asked to be at the National Cultural Foundation at 11 a.m. today to draw for their positions.
