The fight against domestic violence has been given a further boost through a collaboration between Shakira Shaki-K Boxhill and the Services Alliance for Violent Encounters (SAVE) Foundation. Shaki-K, 19, one of the semi-finalists and the youngest in the Pic-O-De-Crop competition, is singing a song entitled Fight Back, which speaks out against domestic violence. Yesterday Shaki-K presented a CD of her song to Liesel Daisley, chairperson and founder of SAVE, who said she was determined to work with calypso artistes in the fight against domestic violence.Daisley said: “I plan to use not only the song but the artiste in the campaign and community outreach programmes to promote the message.”  SAVE, which has been in operation for just over a year, is involved in counselling as well as outreach to persons who have suffered domestic abuse and violence. Shaki-K said the song, written by Ewatt Viper Green, encouraged both women who were beaten and others to stand up and defend themselves against abusive men, and implored men to respect women instead of taking advantage of them.
