Patrons ‘lap up’ Juniors’ offerings

Performances by young kaiso acts captivated hundreds of patrons at the Frank Collymore Hall’s lunchtime concert for the Scotiabank Junior Monarch competitors yesterday. Old and young soaked up the calypso offerings as the juniors gave a preview of this Saturday’s finals slated for the National Stadium. Seven youngsters will vie for the title in the 8-12 category, while seven others will challenge Anita AC Clarke for the 13-18 title. Yesterday’s encore performances came from Everika Lil T Clarke-Weekes and Rashad De Professor Weekes with Who Was It? and Freeze respectively.The up-tempo Terig Adonis Linton kept the audience truly entertained as he performed The Little Rasta Man, while Ranesha Confetti Cummins’ thought-provoking piece Who Do You Want To Trick? spoke to the issue of adults preying on young females.In the 13-18 category, the contestants have a task ahead as they face off against reigning queen Anita AC Charles, who gave a sterling performance of Poverty Is Just A State Of Mind. Other notable performances in that category came from lone male Gregerson Young G Abraham who sang Poverty Still Here and Aziza Lil Az Clarke with The Briefcase. (LK)
