$100m boost

The footprint of Barbados’ fastest growing commercial centre, Warrens, is about to be expanded by a whopping 22 acres.
It is coming through a major joint local/Trinidad injection into what will be the single largest construction project in the area to date and will cost well over $100 million.
The project, being led by businessman and former president of the Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Christian Mouttet, also involves local construction magnate Sir Charles Williams and will stretch from the area now occupied by Cost-U-Less in Welches, St Thomas and encompass the large tract of land that runs immediately east of the Ronald Mapp Highway all the way to the brow of Warrens Hill, overlooking Simpson Motors and the Warrens Industrial Park.
Mouttet told the DAILY NATION last week that construction of a building to house a multi-screen cinema complex and a number of other businesses just east of Cost-U-Less was the start of the project, although it would be separated from the larger undertaking by the road leading to and from Arthur Seat.
Giving a hint of the massive financial injection the project was bringing, he said the cinema complex was just a small part of the overall undertaking and that alone was costing developers about $25 million.
