MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – From his hospital bed, a Minneapolis man who lost three of his seven children in a fire says all he can think of is how he wanted to save his babies.
Sixty-year-old Troy Lewis jumped from a second-story window after the fire broke out Friday morning. He says he ran back in to save his children and was confronted with the most painful decision a parent can face: deciding which children to save.
He rescued nine-year-old Shaca and tried to save eight-year-old Christopher, but his son was already dead. He assumed two other children who were in Christopher’s room were also dead, so he grabbed five-year-old Electra.
He tells the Minneapolis Star Tribune, “I wanted to get all of my babies.”
Shaca and Electra remain in critical condition today.
