BARBADOS’ teenage surf sensation Chelsea Tuach is in the quarter-finals of the Hunter Business Boardriders Pro currently taking place at Merewether Beach, Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia.
She is one of only two international surfers still alive in this round in a country known for the depth of talent among its junior surfers.
The other international surfer is Brianna Cope from Hawaii.
Tuach will face off today in a woman-on-woman battle with Kobie Enright of Australia.
The 2013 National Sports Personality was impressive in her round of 16 heat in which she defeated one of Australia’s top junior surfers, Stephanie Single.
The Australian had clinched the silver medal from Tuach at the ISA World Junior Surfing Championships held in Nicaragua last year, after a controversial interference call.
Third was Tia Blanco from the United States and fourth was another standout Australian junior Zoe Clarke.
This came after Tuach utterly dominated her first round heat, posting the highest wave score of the event so far, 9.25. This was backed up by a 7.0 to combo the rest of the field.
Second in that heat was Billie Melinz from Australia, third was Japanese surfer Rina Kitazawa and fourth was another Australian, Paris Whittaker.
Tuach continues to perform well after a banner 2013 season which saw her climb to third in the junior world rankings.
