Sports?&?Games Spinners continued to dominate the Robert Earle Division One Table Tennis Club Tournament with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Raiders at the Table Tennis Centre, Nursery Drive, St Michael Thursday night.
The win put them back at the top of the Division One standings, all alone on 11 points from six matches, although Fast Loopers, currently in second place on nine points, have a game in hand.
Charles Lovell and Chris Banfield, through their brilliance on the tables, have provided the inspiration for Spinners since the new format for the domestic club championship was introduced this season.
Banfield is yet to drop a set but even in his absence on Thursday the Spinners returned to their winning ways after a hiccup against Fast Loopers the previous week.
At the start of the season, the top four Division One teams from last year were promoted to form a Premier League, leaving the bottom four to compete in the First Division.
The move gave the teams hovering around the middle of last year’s top flight a new lease on life and the Spinners have responded with compelling performances, matched so far only by Fast Loopers.
For Spinners, Wilmont “Funk” Goddard, who moved up from the Second Division to replace Banfield with the latter unavailable for the fixture, beat Curt Moore in straight games 11-7, 11-6, 11-9.
Lovell beat Steve Skinner 11-9, 11-4, 11-2 and, with Rawle Husbands a no-show, Goddard and Julia Morris won the doubles by a walk over from Husbands and Skinner.
In the other match, Barbados Union of Teachers beat Barbados Light & Power 3-0.
Nicholas DeGannes defeated Starvo Bowen 11-8, 11-7, 9-11, 11-9; Andre Felix toppled Sherrice Felix 5-11, 9-11, 11-3, 11-5, 11-8; and in the doubles DeGannes and Paul Thorpe defeated Jeffrey Bostic and Bowen 11-8, 10-12, 11-6, 11-9, 11-6.
