That which was from the beginning, which we heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon and touched with our hands, concerning the word of life.
– 1 John 1:1
This week, I have something that I would like to share with my readers, well-wishers and supporters, but you must keep it as a secret.
I have not discussed it with my boss, the Most Reverend Dr John Holder, Archbishop of the West Indies and Bishop of Barbados, or my wife Den Den, and I must do so before I can make the final decision.
While attending the second Provincial Clergy Conference of the Church in the Province of the West Indies, from April 22 to April 27, in Guyana, I was very pleasantly surprised of what I saw of the country. I am therefore thinking of relocating to that country – but remember that you have to keep that a secret.
The housing stock is very good. There are some very beautiful wooden houses. The people are very hard-working, friendly, pleasant and of course go-getters – something I hope Barbadians will aim for – and, of course, the work ethic is very good. I had two shirt-jac suits made and delivered in two days.
What really drew me to love Guyana was that I was able to handle a lot of money, something that I had never done in Barbados. After converting some United States dollars to Guyanese dollars, I had $91 thousand Guyanese.
But after I paid my hotel bill of $87 800, I was left with only $2 200.
Seriously, I found that clothes were cheaper in Guyana than in Barbados. There was only one regret I had: my lack of walking fitness was exposed when I was taken around Georgetown on foot by Dennis “Fausha” Ward, a Barbadian from my home district Ellerton, St George, who has been living in Guyana for the last 22 years.
Barbadians must stop being so critical of Guyana and its people – you must go and see for yourself before you speak.
I did, and I am thinking about relocating to Guyana. If you want to be a millionaire, then Guyana is the place for you.
