As part of their 100th anniversary celebration, WIBISCO rewarded two students of the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic (SJPP) with one-year scholarships on Tuesday.
Shanna Mottley of the Electrical Division and Curtis Grazette of the Mechanical and Printing Division accepted their awards from marketing manager of WIBISCO, Dianne Payne.
Payne said WIBISCO was “highly committed” to education and awarding scholarships to students would be an annual event on their calendar.
“On November 15 we formalised our partnership with the SJPP by offering a scholarship of $5 000 for a maximum of three students who would be interested in pursuing mechanical engineering, electrical installation or plant maintenance. Fortunately we have found two wonderful awardees here,” she said.
Mottley and Grazette will also be doing their internship at the biscuit company next year.
Before the presentation of the awards, acting principal of the SJPP, Anthony Headley, told the gathering in the school’s conference room that mechanical and electrical engineering were two of the areas that made the institution “what it really is today”.
He further urged the scholarship recipients to make the best of the offer. He said the institution would be contributing to the WIBISCO community outreach programme. (MM)
