Calls for the return of drums to secondary school sports have been a steady chorus since the banning three years ago, but organizers are not budging.
President of the Barbados Association of Principals of Public Secondary Schools (BAPPSS), Winston Crichlow, who sits on the organising committee, said they will not be lifting the ban for the finals of the Barbados Secondary Schools Athletic Championships (BSSAC) at the National Stadium on Thursday and Friday.
“Our position as principals has not changed over the last two years. There may come a time when, after we have been satisfied that certain things are put in place and we can guarantee the appropriate behaviours that we expect, we might give consideration to lifting the ban. But for now, the ban remains in place,” Crichlow told the DAILY NATION after a service at St Paul’s Anglican Church yesterday.
While he did not have the figures to hand, Crichlow said there might have been an increase in the number of records going into the final days.
