Tourism Minister pushing culture

Rihanna’s sell-out first show in her homeland last year attracted more than 10 000 regional tourists, who pumped $8.6 million into the Barbadian economy.
Impressed by the willingness of Caribbean citizens to travel to such international events, Minister of Tourism, Richard Sealy wants to see the fusion of culture and tourism reach a new level in Barbados.
“The Rihanna Concert provided real benefits for Barbados,” Sealy told members in the House of Assembly last night as the Head of Sports and Culture was debated.
“The total number of visitors for the concert was 13 000, and 10 000 came from the region. This is what happens when we properly fuse culture and tourism. I see this area going to a whole new level very soon.”
