With wides miles, 45 of Barbados’ “most deserving” children set off from Emerald City’s cark park in St Philip yesterday morning on an island safari to be feted for the entire day.
It was hard to tell who were more excited – the children or chief organizer of the event, real estate agent Julie Dash, and “celebrity” conductors Red Plastic Bag, Mac Fingall, Maurice Norville and Indra “Indrani” Rudder, who accompanied them in five Island Safari vehicles.
Dash said the tour was in its second year and the number of children had increased from 30, chosen from more than 200 names provided by the public.
The group visited many of the sites of historical importance as well as Moon Town in St Lucy, where Member of Parliament Denis Kellman provided lunch.
The St Philip Ambassadors and numerous volunteers joined forces with Digicel, LIME, Miller Publishing, Emerald City, Courts (Barbados) Limited, Carter’s Building Supplies, the Caribbean Candy Factory, Jennifer Fitzgerald of Wacky Faces and others to contribute to the cause.
The end of the day also brought another surprise, with Butterfield Bank donating savings accounts of $100 to each child. (KB)
