The Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) has its eyes on the cash-for-gold phenomenon too.
President of the chamber, Lalu Vaswani, is calling on legitimate cash-for-gold businesses to go back to the drawing board and pool together to improve collaboration with the Royal Barbados Police Force, as they seek to remove the negative aura that has enveloped the business.
“What we are witnessing is a conflict of public safety versus legitimate economic activity,” he told the SATURDAY SUN.
“We are seeing a threat to our way of life and . . . it is a symptom of the moral decline in our social fabric. It has the capacity to undermine our key foreign exchange earner in tourism, so we must not underestimate the potential this problem has in affecting our total way of life,” Vaswani said.
