Barbados’ most glamorous football club, Weymouth Wales, will have one of this country’s most gifted players, Adrian Hall, dictating their strategy this season when they defend the Digicel Premier League title.
Hall, a former Barbados captain and outstanding midfielder, who also had success with Everton, Wales and Claytons Kola Tonic Notre Dame as a player, has taken over from Eric “O’Malley” Alleyne, who is taking a break from coaching.
Late last year, Hall successfully participated in a CONCACAF/FA Foundation level coaching course in Bermuda, conducted by Chris Dowhan and won rave reviews from Confederation official, Tanya Bialostozky, for his “professionalism, commitment and profound knowledge of the sport”.
Wales’ opening game is today against last year’s knockout kings, Barbados Defence Force, who were also runners-up in the Premiership.
Following a change in the fixtures, this game will now be played as the feature match at 8 p.m., after the opening encounter between Mackeson Brittons Hill and Dayrells Road at 4 p.m. and the second game involving DirecTV Paradise and Gall Hill at 6 p.m.
Even though Wales will be without their two attacking midfielders in the experienced Paul “Soup” Lovell and St Lucian, Zaeehaeus Polius, they have gained four new players.
Heading the list is Barbados’ skilful left-sided midfielder Carl Joseph, who joins from Notre Dame. Also joining Wales are central defender Omar “Sicky Benz” Primus from Pinelands; former Barbados winger Jason “Fowlie” Blackman and midfielder Kemar Bartlett, who played with Fire House in the LIME Pelican Challenge.
Meanwhile, last year’s Most Valuable Player and top midfielder in the Premiership, Jabar “Buggy” Greene is backing Hall to continue Wales’ winning ways.
“We expect the same results as last year. Everybody is working hard, so we are just looking to do our best this year and see whether we can win it again,” Greene told SUNSPORT.
“He [Hall] is a former Wales’ player, so he got the same ideas and the same vision. The fellows have the same spirit as last year, so it isn’t any loss with ‘O’Malley’,” he noted.
Greene said he was delighted to be rewarded for his efforts and would really love to represent Barbados.
“It is a big achievement for me right now after winning the best midfielder and most valuable player for the knockout last year to come and win this here now,” Greene said.
“Definitely, I would like to represent my country but I would just have to go and work hard at it. I would like to earn a cap or two.
“I was in the Under-21 team some years back but I got my ankle broken and that is what stopped me from actually travelling with the team.”
