Angela Thompson was extremely happy to learn that she will not have to worry about paying bills, filling the car with petrol or purchasing groceries for one year, thanks to Courts Barbados Limited.
Angela was presented yesterday with the prize she won in the Courts Free Living For A Year promotion. Prizes include free utility payments, free petrol, free groceries from Emerald City or Carlton & A1 Supermarkets, free movie passes from Olympus Theatres and a trip for two on LIAT.
Thompson, of Chapel Gap No.1, Paynes Bay, St James, shopped at Courts Bridgetown on July 23, where she bought a Dell laptop computer for her son Boris, who is studying political science and economics at the University of the West Indies.
Angela recalled her first purchase from Courts over 20 years ago when she bought a living room suite. She encouraged Barbadians to keep shoping at Courts so that they, too, would have a chance to win.
Paula Philips, director of marketing at Courts, made the presentation to Angela, who was accompanied by her husband Charles and two of her sisters.
Angela and Charles were both elated at winning the prize. They said that a year of no bills would surely make their lives a lot easier.
“I am very happy to win; it will assist greatly with the finances,” said Angela, while Charles added, “These times are very trying and not having bills to pay means that money can be devoted elsewhere – which is phenomenal.”
With their wide assortment of prizes, the Thompson couple gave the assurance that everyone in the family would enjoy the winnings.
Charles, the more vocal of the two, said: “As small as it may be, we will still be able to give someone something.”
He added that the Olympus Theatre passes would go to their son while the petrol would be useful for Angela, who drives; while everyone would enjoy the meals from Kentucky Fried Chicken.
The couple plan to take a trip to Puerto Rico with the airline tickets they also won. (LK)
