TORONTO– There were no success for Caribbean riders in the two feature races at the celebrated Woodbine racetrack on Saturday but they still managed to make their presence felt on the day’s ten-race card.
Barbadian Jono Jones captured Race 5 with Executive Pick, his countryman Patrick Husbands took Race 9 with Red Strike, while Trinidadian Emile Ramsammy won Race 7 on Sinister Quill.
In the CAN$250 000 Princess Elizabeth Stakes over 1-1/16th miles, Ramsammy finished a disappointing fourth aboard the 3-1 favourite Bubbles To The Top as Eurico Rosa Da Silva took honours aboard the
two-year-old filly Grand Style.
Husbands was third aboard the 13-1 bet Sense Of Pride, while Barbadian Slade Callaghan, partnered with the 75-1 long shot Dominating Force, and Trinidadian Richard Dos Ramos with Lucky Be Me, both finished down the field.
In the co-feature $100 000 River Memories Stakes, Jones finished fourth with the 67-1 outsider Avie’s Tale while Husbands was fifth with 4-1 bet Points Of Grace and Dos Ramos, last with 17-1 long shot Bluegrass Princess.
Jones, however, took the $65 900 Race 5 over 1-1/16th miles when he put his three-year-old chestnut filly to the front a furlong out, to reach the wire two lengths clear.
Ramsammy grabbed his lone win in the $57 000 Race 7 going six furlongs, stalking the pace with the 7-1 bet before making his move at the furlong marker and running on strongly to win by a length.
Husbands won the day’s penultimate race worth $71 600, when he piloted his three-year-old bay gelding to a whipping of the three-year-olds and upward, going a mile on turf.
