‘Do-bad’ breakfast at the Museum

WHILE SOME were recovering from the Foreday Morning jump and others preparing for Kadooment Day, hundreds were at the Barbados Museum for the Island Mas Breakfast Party last Sunday.  Multiple deejays, including Boom Tribe, Sagaboy, Chili and Alvin Toppin, were on hand playing all the popular music for the young and young at heart.  By midday, as excited patrons took in the calypso vibes, some could be seen jumping in the “rain”, compliments of a water hose, as they sought to cool their hot feet.
This all-inclusive event, which is in its fourth year, expanded this year, offering not only breakfast, but brunch and lunch as well. The full breakfast included eggs, bacon, turkey, while for brunch patrons feasted on tasty ham cutters, fish cakes, doubles and corn soup. The lunch included saffron rice, fish, chicken stew and salads.  One of the organisers, Peter Clarke, said they wanted to produce an event on a day and at a time that would not clash with other events.
“We came together, two Bajans and two Trinis, and conceptualised this fete, which has grown over time. Because of its success, we have been able to attract several sponsors, including a silver sponsor,” he said.  Clarke added: “This event caters to everybody because we feel that everyone, young and old, should be able to enjoy Crop-Over.” Also appearing were artistes Khiomal and Mikey, who thrilled the patrons with their Crop-Over 2010 hits.by Marilyn SEALY
