Minister:  Do what you have to do

KINGSTON – Minister of National Security Dwight Nelson is urging policemen to do what they need to do to protect themselves, in light of what he called attempts to undermine the security of the nation by “the continued and unabated assault on police personnel” over the past several days. Nelson described the killing of three policemen in five days as “a deliberate and vicious assault on the agents of the state who are duty bound to risk their lives to protect the people of Jamaica”.“Do what you must to protect yourselves,” the minister said.He said the concerted nature of the assaults had left no doubt in his mind that criminals had felt emboldened to strike out at members of the security forces who were doing a superb job in containing crime.He urged police and soldiers to be on heightened alert to preserve their lives and to try to be strong in the face of the attacks. “Let us move decisively to support policemen and women who are called to make supreme sacrifices to safeguard this country from hoodlums who are determined to create mayhem and murder at will,” Nelson urged Jamaicans.(Jamaica Observer)
