As Crop Over and fete season kick into high gear, police are sending a stern warning to parents to keep stricter tabs on their children.
This after several teenagers, some under 16, were attacked and robbed recently in isolated areas after outings.
Public relations officer Inspector David Welch said police were bothered by the incidents and wanted children off the roads by a certain time.
“Children on the road late are vulnerable, and after a certain hour, they become targets,” Welch said. “Parents need to have their children properly supervised, especially when they go to fetes.”
One of the attacks took place at the well known lovers’ spot, Trevor’s Way, and the others were in areas of Bridgetown deserted by pedestrians or motorists after nightfall.
Six students were also left shaken last month when a thief snatched jewellery from one of them on the Richard Haynes Boardwalk at Hastings Rocks, Christ Church, just after 8 p.m.
The lawman explained that teenagers were easy prey sometimes because of their expensive gadgets such as cellphones, iPods and iPads. He said that the young adults were not always aware of their surroundings when using the devices. (AC/SP)
