Shane gets his due

Shane Brathwaite got his rightful rewards after all. Apparently Barbados’ best athlete wasn’t left off everyone’s gift list. He took the lion’s share of prizes, including Senior Male Athlete Of The Year during Thursday’s BOA Flow Awards Ceremony at the Hilton Barbados.

Outfitted in a black fedora and trendy blue sports coat, Brathwaite walked away with no fewer than three honours, receiving the Team Award and special mention for his gold medal in the 110 hurdles at the Central American And Caribbean (CAC) Games.

They all came in recognition of a truly outstanding season that saw the standout sprint hurdler win two CAC gold medals before copping silver and bronze in the 4×100 relay and 110 hurdles, respectively, at the North American, Central American and Caribbean Championships (NACAC).

But those feats almost went for naught when news broke that the National Sports Awards ceremony has become a casualty of the National Sports Council’s cutbacks. (JM)
