Derek “The Ripping Snake” Jones has come good in St John.
The former boxer and well-known distance runner captured yet another race in the country after winning Sunday’s David Thompson Memorial 5K run that started at Gall Hill.
Starting from the pavilion and going north on to Cliff, Jones returned to the start/finish to complete the circuit ahead of second-placed Irvin McCaskie and Carl Adamson, who crossed the line in third.
Adamson’s wife, Sonia, went two positions better to capture the women’s equivalent and relegate Jane Evelyn into second place.
Paul Husbands bettered veteran race walker Noel Husbands to take the 5K walk race while Keron Howell finished in third position.
In the women’s event, Susan Moore took top honours, with eight-year-old Reshawna Forde coming home second. There was a tie for third place between Amina Esuf and Akeila Mayers.
Along with awards for the top three finishers in each of the four categories, there were also prizes for the youngest and oldest males and females presented by Member of Parliament Mara Thompson. (JM)
