Wendy Newton is thankful to be alive following 16 years of oft-excruciating pain after falling from a chair at work.
The 56-year-old mother of three was awarded $352 665.99 in a decision handed down by the Supreme Court Monday, after Justice Jacqueline Cornelius had made an assessment of damages following judgement in Newton’s favour against the Transport Board.
The court awarded the formercustoms/purchasing clerk general damages for pain, suffering and loss of amenities, disadvantage in the labour market, future domestic services and medical care; while special damages were awarded for past medical expenses, domestic services and loss of earnings.
“Considering the lot of expense that I went through it will help in some way, but I had anticipated and heard certain figures that made me believe it would have been much better,” she told the WEEKEND NATION.
“At present I have some expenses I have to deal with first and then I’ll see what is left,” added Newton, who respectfully declined to be photographed.
