Down and out

The boxing has been first-class, but not the Bajan boxers.
And it was confirmed last night when local pugilist Gheeta Narine was floored by her North Korean opponent and then disqualified in the AIBA Women’s Championship at the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex.
After falling to a straight right from former world champion Yun Kum Ju, the teenaged Narine was disqualified for swinging a punch after the referee had stopped the action. This caused spectators to shout “Disgrace” and “Get out of the ring”.
Narine was the second local boxer in four nights to have failed to go the distance, after Jenny Benedict was stopped in her first round.
Last night also had its share of drama outside the ring, with Tunisian Wided Younsy being suspended and sent home after confessing to taking part in a previous pro match.
