For 33 years, the medical fraternity in Barbados and the region has benefited from Professor Henry Stuart Fraser, as he dedicated his life to healing and teaching others.
And during a week-long retirement celebration put on by the Faculty of Medical Science of the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, family, friends and well-wishers celebrated with the 66-year-old.
Fraser started teaching in the medical faculty at Cave Hill in 1977, as well as his medical career as a clinical pharmacologist at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH).
He said it was never his desire to become a doctor or teacher in his earlier days. However, during a lecture last Friday at the QEH’s auditorium, he said being a clinical pharmacologist was “a wonderful career choice”.
He advised those present to “follow your passion”.
The celebrations, which started with a church service last Sunday, climaxed with a banquet at Hilton Barbados last night.
Fraser said his retirement plans included more time with his wife Maureen, writing, more reading and gardening.
Professor J. Michael Branday will replace him as dean. (MM)
