12 MIDNIGHT UPDATE – Police have arrested two young men in connection with the fire-bombing tragedy which claimed the lives of six young women on Friday night two weeks ago at Campus Trendz in Tudor Street, The City.
Sources last night confirmed that the two suspects were both Barbadians from a St Michael district not far from where the attempted robbery and fire-bombing of the Chicken Galore outlet at Bank Hall, St Michael, occurred three weeks ago.
Police public relations officer Inspector David Welch, when contacted, would only say that lawmen had two people of interest in their custody, and were conducting further investigations into the blaze.
Sources also told the SUNDAY SUN that both suspects were being questioned in connection with a number of other crimes.
The breakthrough follows a public outcry for those responsible to be brought to justice for what has been described as one of Barbados’ worst human tragedies.
Among those who perished in the fire were three Campus Trendz employees: Kellisha Olliviere, 24, of Wellington Street, The City; Shanna Griffith, 18, of Pile Bay, Spring Garden, St Michael; and Pearl Cornelius, 18, of London Bourne Towers, The City.
Three shoppers were also killed in the popular City store: Kelly-Ann Welch, 24, of Montrose, Christ Church; Tiffany Harding, 23, of Upper Collymore Rock, St Michael, and Nikkita Belgrave, 23, of Shop Hill, St Thomas.
Last Friday, Barbadians islandwide observed three minutes’ silence in memory of the six young women.
Police are expected to issue an official statement today.
