Parents’ defiance of the Ministry of Education’s policy on cellphones is largely responsible for the public exposure of lewd acts and other incidents among students.
That’s the view of Saul Leacock, president of the Barbados Association of Guidance Counsellors (BAGC), whose members are from both public and private secondary schools.
“You never had this before because nobody had cellphones in schools . . . ,” Leacock said.
“Whatever happened at schools got out because somebody heard something, found out, or somebody told their parents, so it was never broadcast to this level.”
He called on parents to abide by the ban on children taking cellphones to school.
Obey rule!
