Brandon Bess went to bed on Friday night hardly thinking he would be making his Test debut for the West Indies cricket team yesterday.
The 22-year-old Guyanese fast bowler, one of 15 young Caribbean cricketers enrolled at the Sagicor West Indies High Performance Centre, was dramatically summoned from the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies to Kensington Oval as a last minute replacement for injured pacer Nelon Pascal.
Pascal sustained a strained neck muscle in the warm-up less than an hour before the start and with all-rounder Darren Sammy withdrawn from the squad on Friday because of a thigh strain, West Indies were left with precious few fast bowling options.
It led to Bess getting the call-up.
