Sleep, eat and relax.
That’s what Barbados’ latest Mega Six winner Esther Powers will be doing when she takes a birthday cruise in October, as part of her celebrations.
Powers, who bought her ticket from Merle’s Place in Baxters Road, The City, on August 16, came forward yesterday to collect her $447 500 at the Barbados Lottery headquarters on the Harbour Road. Her winning numbers were 2, 4, 17, 25, 29 and 33.
The 64-year-old St Michael woman said that for years she had been playing Mega Six, but this was her first major win.
“I’ve won a little $2 here and there, but I’ve never won this kind of money before,” she told reporters.
Although she is not sure exactly how she will spend it, Powers, who has been unemployed for nearly a year, said she had “a lot of things that needed doing”.
The returning national and mother of four wants to put the finishing touches on her home.
“I haven’t told anyone but my brother. When I saw the numbers I couldn’t believe it . . . I didn’t even tell my husband or the children. When I was dressing this morning, my husband asked me where I was going and I told him I would tell him when I come back . . . I just wanted to confirm this first,” she said. (CT)
