COLERIDGE & PARRY students Maisha Holder and Zoe Skeete-Moses are happy to have won Barbados the Caribbean Junior Duelling Challenge Chef Competition last weekend for the second time.
Holder and Skeete-Moses, who placed first in the finals of this year’s Junior Duelling Challenge Competition in May, said they were delighted that they had the opportunity to compete against others from other cultures.
“It was a good experience to hear the other contestants’ accent, especially when they refer to food. It was also good to see how they prepare their foods. They use the same ingredients we use, but they use them differently,” Skeete-Moses said.
Holder believed that because she and her partner “worked hard, concentrated and put our best foot forward we deserved to be victorious”.
“It was really nice learning how to adapt and communicate with people who came from different cultures. They do stuff very different from us, they cook differently, they use a lot of different spices,” said Holder.
The Barbadians were followed by contestants from Guyana, Grenada, St Lucia and St Vincent. (AH)
