YESTERDAY’S INTERNATIONAL FAIR for the disabled, held on the grounds of Government House, was loaded with educational activities, games, entertainment and “lots of food”.
The fair, organised by the Social and Recreational Committee of the Barbados Council Of The Disabled, was to raise funds for the council’s work in society.
Friends, families, groups and public figures flocked to the fair. Those who were not eating or drinking, or graciously receiving samples from one of the 40 plus booths, or otherwise buying items, were consumed by the entertainment of singers and dancers onstage.
Social and Recreational Committee chairman Elvis Maloney told the SUNDAY SUN that he was happy with the fair, the first of its kind, and hoped it would become an annual event.
“We conceptualised the idea for this fair last year because we wanted to have a fund-raiser for us to sustain a lot of our training programmes and also to add new programmes for the affiliates,” Maloney said.
“This fair also opens the opportunity for the council to educate members of the public about its work and purpose in Barbados,” he added. (AH)
