GOVERNMENT WILL SOON be appointing a “substantial number” of teachers who have been holding temporary jobs.
Minister of Education Ronald Jones gave this assurance last evening while addressing the opening session of the 40th annual general conference of the Barbados Union of teachers at the Hilton Barbados Resort.
He said that there were between 700 and 800 temporary teachers and appointments would be handed out “before much time has elapsed”.
The issue of being appointed to Government posts has taken on greater significance in Barbados at a time when Government is trimming thousands of jobs from the public service. (TY)
