Cuban ready for deal

Raul T. Garcia, the 57-year-old Cuban-born, America-raised man who is on a hunger strike in jail is willing to start eating porridge if Government agrees to transfer him to a non-punitive facility.
This was revealed yesterday by attorney-at-law David Comissiong, who received permission to visit Garcia from Prime Minister Freundel Stuart on Wednesday.
Comissiong met with Garcia at Her Majesty’s Prisons Dodds for an hour yesterday, and his services were later retained with a view to being part of the negotiations with Government to find Garcia a different temporary home, or a country willing to accept him.
Being released into Barbadian society remains a possibility, if given that opportunity, Comissiong also stated yesterday.
