BARBADOS PUBLICLY WELCOMED 200 new citizens yesterday just eight months after the island’s first citizenship ceremony when 120 people were inducted.
The newest citizens from 17 countries made a public declaration of their loyalty and fidelity to the nation, by taking the oath which was administered by Chief Justice Marston Gibson, in the presence of Governor General Sir Elliott Belgrave and Prime Minister Freundel Stuart at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.
The Prime Minister told the new citizens: “In becoming Barbadian citizens, you willingly take on the responsibility to uphold the law of the land, and respect the rights of fellow Barbadians.
“Equality under the law and respect for each other’s beliefs not only serve as the underpinnings of our democracy but are vital aspects of our way of life and contribute to our peaceful coexistence  as a people.”
