After last Saturday’s excellent performance by Discreetwon in the 46th Anniversary Of Independence Handicap over 1 800 metres, it is clear that brothers Martin and Daniel Raizman have got their hands on another special race horse.
The son of Discreet Cat out of Empress Of India registered his third successive win and fourth career success from 11 starts when he stopped the clock a respectable 1:51.4 minutes in the race for three-year-old and older horses rated 100-120. His sire Discreet Cat finished third in the Breeders Cup Dirt Mile (1 609 metres) at Monmouth Park in 2007.
Discreetwon’s record is now four wins, one second, three thirds and two fourth place finishes. One can only hope that this is a change in fortune for the Raizman brothers, who have teased the taste buds of racing enthusiasts in the past with some of the most promising imported two-year-olds.
Names that readily come to mind are Warlake, Inluck, Indanger, Firewon and Messi – all outstanding up until injury or illness cut short their careers. It is time that these brothers reap some rewards.
Trainer Roger Parravicino has once again been given the responsibility of charting the colt’s path to the top.
After being a very consistent two-year-old, Discreetwon immediately handed in his maiden certificate when he turned three years by striding to victory in the Grand Stand Posse Fifth Anniversary Stakes and Trophy over 1 570 metres. Next, he encountered Shared Adventure in the Ocala Breeders Sales Company Stakes over 1 570 metres which resulted in his only unplaced effort.
Sensing his colt had now turned the corner, Parravicino entered him in open company on July 7 against horses rated 83-100 where he finished a credible fourth. On August 1, he stepped up in class and came with a well-timed run to defeat horses rated 68-90 over 1 800 metres in the Emancipation Day Handicap.
He was then dropped back in trip, a race that provided an opportunity for him to showcase his versatility. Under another patient ride once again, he romped home by one and a half lengths, this time in the Tiarah Handicap over 1 100 metres.
After Saturday’s victory, he can’t be far off elite horses such as Dancin David, Apostle, Shared Adventure, Zoom and Show Me The Money.
It was a performance that will likely see Discreetwon move up the rating ladder and to races such as the Victor Challenor Stakes over 1 570 metres; the Coolmore “Home of Champions” Stakes and the Sandy Lane Barbados Gold Cup, both over 1 800 metres, will surely be a priority.
Nothing will please race fans more than to see Discreetwon reach the pinnacle of racing in Barbados and reward his connections for their continued investment.
