The discovery of an elderly man’s body has taken at least one of his relatives by surprise.

This evening, Shirland Blenman, 80, was found decomposed at his Mapp Hill, St Michael home by his younger brother Keith Blenman. Shirland was the owner of Blenman’s Garage in the same location.

Just outside his home, where friends and family had gathered, the younger Blenman said the last time he saw his brother was on Friday.

“I was going to the supermarket on Friday to pick up one thing and I told him and that was about it. But when I was coming back up I didn’t get the chance to stop,” Keith recalled.

When asked if Shirland was ill, he suggested his age could have led to his passing.

“I know he was getting down but I didn’t expect him to die . . . . But when I come up today the door was locked from inside and I couldn’t get him I know that something was wrong,” he added.

He then called the police, who are currently on the scene. (TG)
