‘Birds’ take flight

Barbados’ best had yet  another of those great playoff performances, scoring a game-high 38 points to propel UWI Blackbirds to Sunday’s 83-61 win over Urban Vybz St John’s Sonics in Game 1  of their women’s basketball  first-round series at the  Wildey Gym.
It was just the latest highlight reel-like effort in a career full of them for Atherley, who was making her playoff debut for UWI after leading the now defunct Bulls  to the last two championships.
She seems set on title No. 3, having erupted for 14 points during a decisive 25-5 fourth-quarter run where she proved unstoppable  for a surreal six-minute span.
