Transport Board promoting safety

THE TRANSPORT BOARD is launching a safety awareness programme next week as part of its 55th anniversary celebrations.New general manager Sandra Forde made this disclosure yesterday at a Press briefing.Forde, flanked by human resources manager Markley Clarke and operations manager Byron Jackman, said the launch would involve remarks by key partners and would feature an address by Minister of Transport and Works John Boyce. The minister will declare the programme officially open and will present some of the certificates of Appreciation to those safe drivers and employees whom the public recognised as doing an excellent service.Clarke said the programme, with the theme Pride In Giving A Safe Ride, had the objective of promoting safety. He said the programme would comprise on-the-road assessment of drivers; retraining; first-aid training; and wellness and safety activities.Jackman said the celebrations began on August 15 with a service of worship and thanksgiving at the Christ Church Parish Church, with Father Austin Carrington as celebrant and preacher. He added that the celebrations would continue on Sunday when the board would be taking Transport Board retirees on a scenic ride.
