The Community Independence Celebrations Secretariat got a financial injection today to assist with the annual lighting ceremony, part of the country’s Independence celebrations.
Minister of Culture Stephen Lashley was presented with a cheque for $25 000 by Vince Yearwood, executive vice-president of Sagicor Life Incorporated.
“Although there were set backs, we were determined to continue with the ceremony and are glad that Sagicor continued with the level of sponsorship,” Lashley said adding that Sagicor had remained committed from year to year.
The minister explained that the ceremony, which is normally held on November 1, was delayed due to the untimely death of Prime Minister David Thompson and the passage of Tropical Storm Tomas.
The lighting ceremony is set to take place this evening at 5:30 p.m. (LK)
