THE mother of a woman found dead near a Christ Church plantation on Monday told the DAILY NATION she and her daughter, Sharece Griffith, had been at loggerheads when her offspring left home a couple months ago.
Karen Jones, of Launceston, Gall Hill, Christ Church, said Griffith, in a fit of anger, packed her clothes and pictures and went to live with her boyfriend.
But Jones, reflecting on her first-born’s death, noted she had often spoken to Griffith about her “new boyfriend and other family matters” which were of concern.
“That was before she went to live in Kingsland. She never even told me that she was living in Kingsland.
“This is months we haven’t said anything to each other. We had some issues with each other and somehow I never fancied this new boyfriend for her, and she was angry at that,” she said.
It was on Monday night that Jones had the task no mother would ever want, when she was called to identify her daughter’s bloodied body in a bushy area near Wotton Plantation.
The 31-year-old was discovered by a group of people passing through the area who quickly notified the police around 12:20 p.m.
Police sources said that Griffith had several stab wounds to the head and upper parts of the body, but a post mortem to be done today would determine the cause of death.
Griffith, who lived alone in 3rd Avenue, Kingsland Gardens, Christ Church, worked at the Coffee Shop in the recently built Satjay Mall in Bridgetown. She was the mother of 11-year-old Kaila Griffith.
Her death came shortly after that of Callista “Theresa” Alleyne, a popular fruit and vegetable vendor, who operated a stall along My Lord’s Hill, St Michael. She was found dead in the backyard of her home last week Wednesday, about 6 a.m.
While the body of the 51-year-old was found nude with multiple stab wounds to the head and shoulders, Griffith’s was still fully clothed.
Public relations officer Inspector David Welch said police were investigating the deaths, and appealed to people who had any information to contact Oistins Police Station as soon as possible or call the Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-TIPS.
