Barclays beach clean up

Dozens of young and old turned up at Barclays Park this morning to begin the monumental task of cleaning the beach at Barcclays Park in St Andrew.
From 5:30 a.m., volunteers were turning up armed with gloves, rakes, wheelbarrows and any tools that would help to achieve the objective of returning the recreational park at Barclays Park to its pristine beauty.
Politics, class, colour and creed were ignored as everyone worked towards the goal outlined.
As it got brighter over the East Coast, more and more people were turning up, swelling the numbers to almost 100.
Some areas of the beach could be seen for the first time in over three weeks since the moss invaded.
Coordinator of the clean-up, Dr Lorna Inniss, deputy director of the Coastal Zone Management Unit, said the exercise was an experiment as the Sargassum would be taken up and dumped to provide manure for foliage inland.
“We are pleasantly surprised by the response and this effort will be continued at other beaches,” she said.
