Belize junior minister sacked

BELMOPAN, Belize – Prime Minister Dean Barrow today fired his junior Minister of Works Edmund Castro over his behaviour.
In a brief statement, Barrow said Castro had “engaged in behaviour that is inconsistent with the high standards of propriety to which the Prime Minister seeks to hold his ministers”.
Castro has declined to comment on the reason for his dismissal but thanked the Prime Minister for the privilege that was given to him over the last two and a half years to serve as the junior minister of Works. A government statement said that Castro’s dismissal is in keeping with the Prime Minister’s high standards of propriety to which he seeks to hold his ministers and in keeping with his personal commitment to the electorate and the UDP’s administration’s general determination to practice good governance.
Prime Minister Barrow, who is on sick leave, said he will name a replacement soon. (CMC)
