GEORGETOWN, Guyana – Former deputy prime minister Winston Murray died here on Monday night, without regaining consciousness 11 days after he collapsed and hit his head.
The former chairman of the main opposition People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) died at the Georgetown Hospital from brain hemorrhage.
He was 69.
Over the weekend, the PNCR said that doctors treating Murray, who was the Shadow Minister of Finance, said that he could not undergo any surgical intervention “”because of the state of his vital signs including, no responses from his brain”.
Murray was rushed to hospital after he reportedly fell and hit his head.
Murray was one of a number of persons in the running to be the PNCR’s presidential candidate for the 2011 general elections. (CMC)
