Sinckler must tell all

Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler must tell the people today that Barbados is in economic crisis, says former Central Bank Governor Sir Courtney Blackman, and that it calls for tough financial measures.
And, adds Sir Courtney, the Freundel Stuart-led Government must consider a public sector wage freeze, except for police officers and nurses.
That’s the kind of message the first Governor of the Central Bank of Barbados believes Sinckler should be delivering in today’s Budget – his very first.Sir Courtney said the stringent public financial measures were necessary to control Government expenditures.
Just as important, he pointed out, was improved revenue collection to ensure people paid their taxes on time; diversification of the National Insurance Scheme’s investment portfolio; and a crackdown on wasteful spending and inefficient management of state enterprises.
