HEALING HERBS: Cherish breadfruit

Fellow Barbadians at home, abroad, and all others, it gives me tremendous pleasure to share with you, as we celebrate 46 years of Independence, that silent doctors, exercise, toned abdominals and holistic foods are in effect.
We must no longer tolerate poor health as we approach 2013. Change must become evident as we embrace and uncover our Barbadian silent doctors wholeheartedly.
One of the silent doctors we must cherish in order to maintain tradition is breadfruit. Silent doctor breadfruit is non-fattening, nutritious and extremely delicious.
This week at Christ Church Foundation School, some students and I were taught the correct way to roast breadfruit by Mr Harrison, a teacher in my department. We totally enjoyed and will cherish that memory.
As I continue on our abdominal crusade, roasted breadfruit with pickled cucumber, sprinkled with cayenne pepper, and pigeon stew is a new addition to our menu. Juice made from tamarind pulp and thyme will blow you away. Pride of Barbados tea remains the order of the day.
As we continue our Independence Celebrations, quizzes are no strangers in our festivities. In keeping with that tradition, I will do likewise. You can email me your answers and share them with colleagues and friends.
• Complete this saying: Who help you buy a –– don’t –– (give a Bajan term used to describe a huge abdominal area).
• Quote two lines from the National Anthem that can provide motivation while doing abdominal exercises.
• Which folk song has the word “belly” in its title?
• Where in Barbados can you find Fruitful Hill?
• Senator – was an advocate of “food comes first”.
• Name four exercises to tone abdominal muscles.
• Identify one silent doctor that is a natural fat burner.
• Create a recipe for holistic conkies.
• Identify five health challenges that can develop if the abdominal area is too huge.
• True or false: nettle can be used for weight loss.
• List 13 foods to avoid when trimming the abdominal area.
• Describe silent doctor cerasee.
• My scientific name is Artocarpus altilis; who am I?
Finally, being born in November 1966 always excites me tremendously. This Independence, I truly implore you to let the lights on our buildings remind you to rise above the darkness associated with a huge abdomen. Please! Make an earnest attempt to tone your abdominal muscles.
