Offers of cash for goods along with offers of cash for gold and cellphones can lead to an increase in robbery, theft and burglaries.
Police public relations officer Inspector David Welch stated this yesterday after displaying more than $10 000 worth of gold jewellery recovered recently when the police executed a search warrant at a Bridgetown business.
Welch appealed to people to come to the District “A” Police Station to identify the items. He said that one or two of the pieces had unique features and were identifiable while others were ordinary pieces. He said investigations were continuing.
Welch said the police believed the jewellery might be associated with the cash-for-gold business and he again appealed to individuals and business places to  carefully secure their properties.
He said people should limit the amount of jewellery they wore or stop wearing it until the police could get a handle on the situation. There were cases of people being robbed of jewellery at bus stops and on public transport, he said.
People who want to see the jewellery at District “A” are asked to call 430-7189 to make an appointment. (LK)
