SHE?MAY have been beaten at the last constituency elections she contested, but Margo Durant-Callender is back again.
This time around the educational administrator/business manager who has a life-long connection with Christ Church is hoping to be chosen to represent Christ Church West Central when the Opposition Barbados Labour Party holds nominations at the Deighton Griffith School tomorrow at 4:30 p.m.
Speaking to the SATURDAY SUN yesterday evening, Durant-Callender admitted that she was “a bit bruised” after Wilfred Abrahams defeated her by 24 votes to win the nomination for the Christ Church East on June 6 2009, but said repeated calls to “run again” kept coming.
If elected, Durant-Callender says she wants to see a monitoring and protection committee put in place to ensure the safety of the elderly who live alone, and an educational fund to provide scholarships for young constituents to benefit from post-secondary education and training.
She is well known in Christ Church having had her early education at St. Christopher Girls and her secondary education at Christ Church High School.
She has been a former constituency assistant and has organised many events in the parish of Christ church. She is also the deputy chairperson of the Christ Church parish Independence Committee.
The SATURDAY SUN has learnt however that the former parliamentarian for the area, Joe Edghill may be seeking to contest the nomination. The seat is currently held by Cabinet minister Stephen Lashley.
Apart from the election of the next candidate the meeting will also feature addresses by other BLP Christ Church candidates, Dr Maria Agard, Wilfred Abrahams and Desmond Sands, as well as Opposition Leader Owen Arthur.
