TeleBarbados Carlton Juniors are once more kings of the Desmond Haynes Under-16 Cricket Competition.
In a one-sided final yesterday, they captured the Fortress Fund Managers’ Cup with an emphatic ten-wicket win over rivals Fusion Boutique Passage United at the Desmond Haynes Oval.
Set a meagre 64 for victory, they raced to the target with 21.2 overs to spare.
Openers Lee-Germon Gaskin and Dikembe Wilson built on the platform that was earlier set up by the bowlers who routed Passage United for 63 in 23.4 overs.
Gaskin struck 36 from 45 balls, including six well-timed fours, while Wilson made 19 with three boundaries.
It was the second time that Passage United finished as runners-up in the tournament, which is now in its second year.
After electing to bat, Passage United were humbled by a combination of pace and spin and the most significant contribution came by way of 25 extras.
The destruction started in the first ball of the day’s second over when key player Leniko Boucher sliced a catch to point off fast bowler Keon Harding for one.
Zubair Lokhat skied an attempted pull to be caught and bowled by Shamar Springer running across to cover. Hasani Newton was yorked without scoring as he came down late on a delivery from Harding.
After the opening bowlers were rested, there was still no respite for Passage United.
Hakeem Ellis, the only batsman to reach double digits, was bowled around the pads by Alexander Branch for 14. He struck the only two boundaries of the innings in the ninth over.
Medium-pacer Branch, who claimed three for six from five overs, also got rid of Marston Burgess, bowled for nought, and Zidane Harewood, brilliantly caught at mid-wicket by Harding.
Off-spinner Sachin Clarke picked up the wickets of Sylvester Moore and Zidane Harewood to end with two for seven, while Harding captured three for 12 after bowling last man Micah Thornhill.
Harding and Branch shared the Player-Of-The-Match award.
