Barbadians in New York are divided over the results of the recent public opinion poll that showed Owen Arthur and Mia Mottley of the Barbados Labour Party (BLP)?may be on track to run the country again.
The cautiously optimistic were supporters of the Opposition BLP, while those who downplayed the significance of the CADRES public opinion survey tended to be backers of the ruling Democratic Labour Party (DLP).
Jessica Odle-Baril, a former Consul-General in New York when the BLP was in office, said that while it was “comforting” to see Arthur’s reemergence as the “most desired person to lead the country”, it was clear that both the Bees and the Dees had “their work cut out for them” in the run-up to the next election that must be called by April next year.
“I was recently in Barbados and politics is on the lips of most people and there are indications of a desire for change in the country,” said Odle-Baril, the public relations officer of A Better Life For Our People, the BLP arm in the United States.
